2012 Guatemala GT Projects

Guatemala National Baptist Convention (GT) Mission Projects 2012

 
Please note that all Guatemala in-country arrangements will be made through Reggie Quimby to ensure proper arrangements with the nationals. The Guatemala “GT” projects will be through the National Baptist Convention. The estimated cost will be approximately $1,300 to $1,500. This cost will cover international travel, local travel, insurance, background checks, translators, lodging, and meals. Project funds are due on the field one-month prior to arrival of volunteer team. Note: if our office handles travel arrangements, a deposit of $200 (non-refundable) per person is required in order to make reservations, payable to Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, with balance due two months prior to date of project. Once an airline reservation is made for a volunteer, the volunteer is required to pay for the ticket. To schedule an orientation session, please contact Barbara Owen.

Holding for First Baptist Church, Prattville:  GT-1, Mision Bautista San Carlos, Mazatenango, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers:  The community is located in the town of Mazatenango, about an hour and a half from Guatemala City. This is a new Baptist Mission that was established 7 months ago and at this time it has about 25 families attending plus some children.  The church is focused on Evangelism. This town only has one public school with 325 children and the church has been ministering to them. The Mission Work that they are requesting: Medical Clinic (because most people in this area have parasites, malnutrition, skin problems, and respiratory infections); VBS at the local school; Evangelism, visitation, and distribution of food bags or water filters ($10.00 each).
 
GT-2, Iglesia Bautista Bethania, Santo Domingo Suchitipequez, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: The church is located in Mazatenango and the community is called San Mauricio.  The church is focused on Evangelism and social outreach to the community. The Mission work that the church needs is: VBS at the public school; Medical Journey because most people suffer of malnutrition, parasites, skin problems, and respiratory infections; and Training for leaders, women and pastors.
 
GT-3, Mision Bautista Cristo Es La Roca, Santa Lucia Cotz, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: This is a Mission of the God’s Love Baptist church and has about 50 families that are attending. The Mission Work they are asking for: Evangelism and visitation with food bags; VBS at the public school of the area with about 1,200 children (twice a day, morning and afternoon); Medical Journey (most people have high levels of malnutrition, parasites, and skin problems); and some Construction to build a new building since they have been meeting in a home up until now.
 
GT-4, Iglesia Bautista Dios Es Amor, Santa Lucia, Cotzalguapa, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: The church is located an hour from Guatemala City. The main focus of the church is Evangelism and the mission work they are requesting is: VBS at the public schools of the area to present the Gospel to the children in the community (the church has a ministry that works with youth and children called Jesus is the Rock); Medical Journey; and Evangelism and Visitation.
 
GT-5, Iglesia Bautista Ebenezer, Santa Lucia Cotz, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: The church is located about one hour from Guatemala city. There are about 50 families that attend the church and their focus is Evangelism and working with children and youth ministry. One of the needs they have is classrooms for the Sunday School and this ministry is growing. The mission work they are requesting is: VBS and Construction work.
 
GT-6, Iglesia Bautista El Cordero de Dios, Escuintla, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: The church is located in Escuintla. It has approximately 100 members and they are focused on Evangelism, children and youth ministries. Their needs are: Medical Clinic (most people in this area have parasites, malnutrition, skin problems, and respiratory infections); VBS; and Evangelism and Visitation.
 
GT-7, Iglesia Bautista Fidadelfia, Escuintla, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: The church is located one hour from the city of Escuintla and 10 minutes from the beach. The church has about 100 members and is focused on Evangelism and social work among the families of the community. Mission work needed is: Medical Journey, Evangelism and Visitation, VBS, and Construction work for two classrooms that need some repair.
 
Holding for Government Street Baptist Church, Mobile:  GT-8, Primera Iglesia Bautista Horeb, Escuintla, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: The church has 250 active members. Their primary focus is Evangelism, Evangelistic Campaigns (have several throughout the year) and they work with youth and children, and women's ministries which are active and strong.  They have 50 helpful women which are in charge of the praying ministry.  The youth group is in charge of the ministry that visits the public hospital of the town, visiting with coffee and bread and praying as well with the focus of Evangelism of the sick. What they request is: Training for pastors and leaders, youth activities, as they have a group of 40 very active youth; VBS with children at local public schools; Medical Journey; and some repair at the church like painting, etc.
 
GT-9, Iglesia Bautista Vida Neuva En Jesus, Escuintla, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: This is a relatively new church; it is located in Escuintla about 45 minutes from Guatemala City. The church has about 50 members in its congregation and they are focused on evangelism and children’s ministry. The mission work that the church is requesting: Medical Journey, Evangelism, VBS, and Construction Work to build the Sanctuary of the church.
 
GT-10, Iglesia Bautista Roca De Los Siglos, Escuintla, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThe community has approximately 10.0000 inhabitants, it is located 12 kilometers from the city of Escuintla. The church has 100 members and their main focus is evangelism. The mission work that they are looking for:  VBS, Evangelism and Visitation, and Construction Work to build the new temple, because the one that they have is too small and they would like to expand to have more room.
 
GT-11, Iglesia Bautista Emanuel, Escuintla, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThe church is located in the region of Escuintla, 45 minutes from Guatemala City. The church has 150 members and they are focused on evangelism, prayer and service to the community.  The mission work that they are asking for: Medical Journey, providing medicines for parasites, skin problems, respiratory problems, malnutrition, etc.; VBS at church and public local schools to support the children’s and youth ministry; Women’s training; and Evangelism and visitation providing Bibles, tracts, and food bags for the families in need. The church has a ministry that is helping a nursing home, providing them cloth, food, sharing the gospel with them, and they would like to provide some Bibles, Christian materials, crafts, Depends for older people, crayons, coloring books, clay, educational games, balls, etc.
 
Holding for First Baptist Church, Oxford:  GT-12, Iglesia Bautista Jehova Es Mi Pastor, Escuintla, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThe church is located 15 minutes from the city of Escuintla; the name of the village is Puente Palo. The church has 60 families who are focused on evangelism and social service to the community giving out food. They have a children’s ministry. The mission team can help with: Medical journey, Evangelism and Visitation providing food bags ($10.00 each) for the families in need, and Construction Work to build classrooms for Sunday School, bathrooms.   The church also needs some repair work (painting, roofing, electricity, etc.).
 
GT-13, Iglesia Bautista Rayito De Luz, Escuintla, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThis is a mission church that is supported by the Horeb Baptist Church, it is located in a village called Santa Ana Mixtan, an hour and a half from Escuintla. The church has 60 active members and their focus is evangelism and outreach in the community. A vision that the church has is to build a shelter so the community can use it when there is a lot flooding. The church has been praying for a Mission Team that can provide: Medical Journey, VBS , Evangelism and Visitation, and Construction.
 
GT-14, Iglesia Bautista Dios es Amor, San Andres, Itzapa, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThe church is located in a Village called San Cristobal and has 150 members. They have a Youth and Children’s Ministry and have been sharing the Gospel at the local public schools. Also, they gather in small groups to have Bible studies and discipleship. mission work needed: Evangelism and Visitation, Leadership Training, VBS at church and public schools, and Youth Activities, sports, block parties, concerts, etc.
 
Accepted by North Shelby Baptist Church, Birmingham:  GT-15, Iglesia Bautista Jesus es el Camino, Jocotenango, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThe church is located about 10 minutes from Antigua, Guatemala. The main purpose of the church is Evangelism. They have a mission church where they just started to build the Temple and at this mission they have a Children’s ministry. The church is asking for: VBS at church, mission and public schools, Evangelism and Visitation, and Construction.
 
GT-16, Iglesia Bautista Macedonia, San Andres Itzapa, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: This is a church that has 150 members. Their main purpose is Evangelism, outreach the community, and Children’s ministry. They support a public school, teaching the children about Jesus, presenting the Gospel to them, and providing school supplies for them. The church would like to have a mission team that can help them to witness to the community through: Medical Journey, Evangelism, VBS, and Construction (building small houses for the families that need a home).
 
GT-17, Iglesia Bautista Restauracion, Santo Domingo Xenacoj, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: This is a small church that is focused on Evangelism and reaching their community through discipleship and social work. The team would be helping to conduct: Medical Journey, VBS, Discipleship and Sunday School training, and Prayer Walk.
 
GT-18, Iglesia Bautista Sinai, San Andres Itzapa, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: The church is located in the town of the community and has 300 active members. They are focused on Evangelism and social projection, and they have a strong Women’s and Youth ministry.  The church would like assistance in conducting: VBS in their community (some of the church members will help, but they would like to have a team to lead in this project); Door-to-door Evangelism distributing scripture portions, tracts, and visiting in homes (this will give attention to the church and its role in the community); Women’s and youth activities; and Block Party.
 
GT-19, Iglesia Bautista Siloe, San Martin Jilotepeque, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: The Church has 100 active members. They are working on Children’s and Youth ministries, are having Bible studies at the public schools of the area and small Bible studies groups, and they help the community through social work.  The church would like to have a team that can help with: Medical Journey, Evangelism, Leadership Training for women, youth and children ministries; and VBS. This would be a way to open doors of outreach opportunity with the local churches.
 
GT-20, Iglesia Bautista Emanuel, San Martin Jilotepeque, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: This is a small church that is working in the community through Bible study groups and Evangelism.  They are requesting: Medical Journey, Evangelism, VBS, Prayer Walk, and Visitation distributing grocery bags for families in need. The results of this project will be both to encourage the church members and to share the Gospel in the town.
 
GT-21, Iglesia Bautista Macedonia, La Union Coatepeque, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThis is a church located in the City of Coatepeque. It has 100 active members who are working on Evangelism, Children’s Ministry at church and local public schools, and they also have Bible studies in small groups. The church is requesting: Evangelism and Visitation providing grocery bags, Medical Journey, Leadership training, and VBS at church and local public schools.
 
GT-22, Iglesia Bautista Patmos, Costa Cuca, Coatepeque, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: The church has 150 active members, most of them farmers. The church is working in the community through Evangelism, social work, and children’s ministry at church and public local schools. They are requesting a mission team that can help them have: Medical Journey, VBS at church and public schools, Evangelism and Visitation, and Leadership Training. This would be a way to open doors of outreach opportunity with our church.
 
GT-23, Iglesia Bautista de Pajapita, San Marcos, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThis is a 6-year-old church with 150 active members, most of them farmers. Their main focus is to work with children and youth ministries. At this time they are working on the construction of the Sanctuary. They are requesting a mission team that can help them with: Medical Journey; Evangelism and Visitation distributing tracts, evangelistic materials and grocery bags; VBS; and Construction work.
 
GT-24, Primera Iglesia Bautista, Coatepeque, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult Volunteers: This is a church with 300 members who are very active and are working with the men’s, women’s, youth and children’s ministries. Also, they have a ministry with the emergency room of the National Hospital, providing coffee and bread to the people and at the same time praying and sharing the Gospel with them. The church is requesting: Evangelism, Leadership Training, VBS, and Prayer Walk.
 
GT-25, Iglesia Bautista El Buen Pastor, Santiago Atitlan, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThe church is located in the downtown of Santiago Atitlan and has 400 members.  The church is focused on Evangelism and children’s ministry, and they have 2 Mission, a Christian School with 130 children. The mission work they are asking for is: Medical Journey; Evangelism and Visitation providing grocery bags; VBS at local Elementary Public Schools; and Leadership Training for children and women ministries and Sunday School teachers.
 
GT-26, Iglesia Bautista Alfa and Omega, Panajachel, Solola, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThe church is located in Panajachel. It has 150 active members and their main focus is to work with children at the local public schools of the community, evangelism and social work. They would like to have a team that can help with: Evangelism and Visitation distributing Bible scriptures and grocery bags, Medical Journey, and Prayer Walk. This work will help to reach many people in the community.
 
GT-27, Iglesia Bautista San Pablo, La Laguna, Solola, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThe church has 100 members and their main focus is to evangelize the community through different services and activities. They are looking to have a team to help them with: Evangelism and Visitation, VBS, and Medical Journey.
 
GT-28, Iglesia Bautista Adonai, Huehuetenango, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThis is a small church which has 60 active members and is located in a town called Chiantla where Catholicism is very strong. The main focus of the church is Evangelism. The church would like to have a team to help them with: Evangelism and Visitation, VBS, and Construction work. The results of this project will be both to encourage the church members and to share the Gospel in the town.
 
GT-29, Iglesia Bautista La Verdad es Jesus, Huehuetenango, Flexible Dates, Youth and Adult VolunteersThe church’s vision is to reach the community through Evangelism, visitation and social work. The church is requesting a team that can help them in: Evangelism and Visitation; Medical Journey; VBS; and Construction work, as their building is 40 years old and needs a lot of repairs, especially the classrooms. This work will be a way to reach the community.
 
Accepted by Chilton Baptist Association:  GT-30, Arca de Noe Baptist Church and Jesus es el Camino Baptist Church, Chimaltenango, Flexible Dates, Adult Volunteers: The main purpose of Arca de Noe Baptist Church in Chirijuyu and Jesus es el Camino Baptist Church in Jocototenango, Chimaltenango, is to spread the Gospel to the community through different activities and social services. They are requesting a Mission Team that can work on: Evangelism and Visition and Medical Journey. The results of this project will be both to encourage church members to share the Gospel in the town and this would be a way to open doors to outreach the community.
 
Accepted by Autauga Baptist Association Youth Team:  GT-31, Primera Iglesia Bautista, Iglesia Bautista Fuente De Salvacion, Iglesia Adonai, y Mision Pueblo de Dios, Huehuetenango, March 23-28, 2012, Youth and Adult Volunteers:  The Baptist churches of the North West region are asking for a team that can come to work with them on: VBS at the local public schools; VBS at the local church; Youth Evangelism and youth activities; and Ladies conference. All these activities will open a door to work with the community and have the opportunity to share the gospel with them.  Also this team will support the Mission Church Pueblo de Dios (this Mission is supported by Pueblo de Dios Baptist Church in Prattville, Alabama, Hispanic Ministry).
