SO WHO ARE OUR GUEST SPEAKERS? Tuesday: Doug Munton 7 Steps to Becoming a Healthy Christian Leader “Seven Steps to Becoming a Healthy Christian Leader” is not a stodgy treatise on leadership, but a system that takes practical steps toward becoming a healthy leader. A dead on diagnosis is delivered then a practical and biblical prescription for what ails our leadership is given with a probing and engaging style. During the journey of this conference you will learn to deepen your intimacy with God, discover a vision of what could be, develop a passion for reaching people, sacrifice for God’s kingdom, persevere through difficulties, and strengthen your people skills. Doug Munton has been the senior pastor of First Baptist Church O'Fallon since 1995. He has seen the church grow from 550 worshippers to more than 1,700 worshippers each week. Doug is a graduate of Wheaton College and received his Masters and PhD from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He recently published his second book, “Warriors in Hiding.” He and his wife, Vickie, have four children.
Thursday: John Shepherd Church Unique Church Unique is a visioning process to help churches develop a stunningly unique model of ministry that leads to a redemptive movement. It guides churches away from an internal focus to emphasize participation in their community and surrounding culture. An approach for rethinking what it means to lead with clarity as a visionary is presented. Each church has a culture that reflects its particular values, thoughts, attitudes, and actions and shows how church leaders can unlock their church's individual DNA and unleash their congregation's one-of-a-kind potential. John Shepherd serves as Lead Pastor of River Oaks Community Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Previously, he served as Executive Pastor of Spiritual Formation at Mountain Lake Church in North Atlanta. Additionally, he serves as a Lead Navigator with Auxano Church Consulting Group. He has planted and pastored innovative, missional churches in Florida and Tennessee, as well as served as a church planting missionary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
LABS When registering for Labs if you have never attended before we recommend starting with Year One and over the consecutive years work your way through the curriculums. We have given much thought to the progression of the LAB curriculums. Year Four topics change each year so that once you have gone through the building blocks of Leader Lab you can continue to grow your Leadership skills with each returning year.
Year One: Lead Like Jesus (Leadership Encounter with Jesus) We have established this curriculum as our basic and foundational offering in Leader Lab. It is our prayer and desire that this will be the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in your personal journey to becoming an effective servant leader.
This unit is designed to guide each participant in exploring his/her personal response to Jesus’ call to “follow me” and embrace the principles of servant leadership embodied in the phrase “not so with you.” The agenda includes:
♦ Time for personal reflection on the heart attitudes and disciplines of a servant leader ♦ An opportunity to experience the power and value of small group support and accountability ♦ The opportunity to grow through the exchange of personal experiences in implementing FaithWalk Leadership ♦ Guidance in developing a personal next step FaithWalk Leadership game plan
Year Two: Leadership Greatness The Leadership Greatness workshop shines the light on five biblically based principles that every “great” leader consistently practices. These principles are time-honored and broadly applicable to each of us at various points in our leadership development journeys.
Transforming ourselves into a "great" leader for His kingdom does not occur overnight. It is a journey that starts and ends with the Master, is built up and torn down through circumstances, and it has no finish line. This workshop focuses on equipping and encouraging today’s Christians to be leaders in the home, in the ministry, and in the community that God has placed them.
Leadership Greatness is biblically based and powerfully practical. The workshop utilizes hands-on assessment tools, multimedia presentations, group discussion time, and interactive exercises that stimulate learning and application. The five traits of "great" leadership that the material addresses are calling, contentment, character, crafting, and coaching.
Year Three: Coaching on the Run Followers of Christ have been given significant roles to fulfill in the advance of His Kingdom. Success for the believer is discovering who God has called them to be and what He has called them to do. So, what is your process? As a ministry leader how will you help others discover and become who God has called them to be? How can you help them become more intentional about their role in the Kingdom? Coaching on the Run can help you discover the power of coaching to transform your life and those you coach. Your heart will feel the excitement as God allows you to become a vital part of their ministry journey through coaching.
As a result of this workshop you will be able to: ● Understand and practice a basic coaching model. ● Learn to ask powerful questions. ● Begin a personal coaching development plan. ● Outline what coaching might look like in your ministry setting.
Year Four: Conflict Management, Turning Strife into Synergy Conflict: the word raises a dimension of human relationship in our minds that most of us would like to avoid. But since we cannot, it is well to ask how we can come to understand the nature of human conflict in a way that leads to constructive and not destructive ends.
Participants will identify the sources and patterns of conflict, identify the possible outcomes of conflict and understand how to manage conflict to constructive outcomes, and explore the concept and role of trust in relationships. Using biblical case studies, this workshop gives team members insight into the principles and processes for managing healthy disagreement. It gives the team common terminology with which to describe the subjective, emotional dimension of conflict, and ground rules which will allow them to manage that conflict effectively. The workshop includes a team conflict survey and a diagnostic that identifies and explains each participant's personal conflict style.
