MI-1, “Fuge” Youth Camp, Bambi Lake Retreat and Conference Center, Roscommon, MI (State Convention), July 19-23, 2010, 13-15 College Student Volunteers: We would like a team of college students to lead a “Centrifuge like” youth camp at our state encampment, Bambi Lake. (This is to replace the traveling Centrifuge team, which LifeWay has eliminated.) The team would include a lead preacher, musicians, small group study leaders and recreation leader(s). We would provide curriculum (promised by LifeWay). Justin Miller can provide more detailed information. He will want to speak with the key leaders (preacher and worship leader) before final arrangements are made.

MI-2, Bambi Lake New Lodging (Initial Stages), Bambi Lake Retreat Center, Roscommon, MI (State Convention), May-Mid-June 2010 (Flexible), Adult Teams: A new lodging facility is planned for 60 people. Various initial clearing, survey and utilities and concrete work is planned prior to summer camping season. Summer youth camps restrict workers due to background check guidelines.

MI-3, Bambi Lake Roofing and Repairs, Bambi Lake Retreat Center, Roscommon, MI (State Convention), April-May 2010 (Flexible), Teams of 6 Adults and Teens: Refurbish an older facility for better convention use and sustainability. Some convention funding will arrive due to the selling of properties. Details of the amount of funding will be determined at the Annual Oct Convention. Proceeds will go to repairs of existing concerns that the annual budget cannot care for.   Targets areas include: Lodge- Reroofing and insulate, install a donated Maytag Triple Loader Washer; 3 Chalets- Reroof, insulating various carpentry repairs; and Pinegrove- Rebuilding the bathroom to include 4 showers and better insulation. Vehicles/equipment- Various seasonal care and preventative maintenance. Steam Cleaning- Industrial cleaning of our Lodge’s carpet is long over due. Various electrical upgrades to allow our ministry platform to be more energy efficient. Some interior patching and repainting will also be needed. Change over from Winter and Summer startup to include multiple repairs and restocking from the winter season of use.

BAY ASSOCIATION

MI-B-1, Central Michigan University Collegiate Ministry Workers, Church Plant, Mount Pleasant, MI (Bay Assoc.), 2010 Date Flexible, 1+ Young Adult/College Graduate Volunteer: Mount Pleasant Student Ministry/New Work. There is a very active Christian Challenge group on the campus of CMU averaging 15-20 per week in their meetings. The group is presently being led by a student, a young black man from the Flint area who is an excellent speaker and leader. However, he will graduate in May 2010 and we will need a leader for this student ministry group and we believe that the right person can lead the student ministry and at the same time use those attending the Christian Challenge program to start a new congregation in Mount Pleasant that would hopefully draw a younger crowd. We are missing that population at this time although we do have one Southern Baptist congregation (Isabella Baptist Church) about 4 blocks from the university. The present congregation is made up primarily of an older population that does not have an active outreach to the campus. The city has a population of about 45,000 including the population of the CMU campus (20,000). We are praying for and looking for a person who could come at their own expense (or raise the most of it) who has a heart for ministry on the campus and a desire to start a new work.

MI-B-2, Saginaw Hispanic Work, Saginaw, MI (Bay Assoc.), 2010 Date Flexible, 1+ Hispanic Volunteers: For over three years, a pastor from Flint had been traveling to Saginaw each week for outreach in the afternoon and leading a Hispanic Bible Study in the evening at one of our local churches (Saginaw Valley Baptist Church). Unfortunately, at the end of 2008, he had to discontinue his work in Saginaw to give more attention to his ministry in Flint. Presently, to my knowledge, there is no evangelical work in the Hispanic community that uses the native tongue in their worship services. Saginaw has a population of just over 50,000 within the city limits and approximately 6,200 of them are Hispanics. We believe that a good work could begin if there was a Hispanic pastor who lived in the area and was able to devote time and attention to the work. Cultivative activities built around the Hispanic community calendar would be helpful as they seem to turn out for special events. Things like block parties and other types of outreach would most likely draw a number of Hispanics. Also if we find a Hispanic Church Planter, we will need some financial assistance to help provide for him in the work.

MI-B-3, Gladwin County – New Work, Bible Studies, Gladwin County, MI (Bay Assoc.), 2010 Date Flexible, 1+ Volunteers: Gladwin County has a population of just over 26,000. Ninety Eight percentage are Caucasian. Southern Baptists have had an Anglo work there in the past but the church moved from the county a couple of years ago. We believe that there is a need to re-establish a new work. One of our churches in a neighboring county (Sunrise Baptist Church in Midland) has some families who live in Gladwin County and drive into Midland to church along with a young man who feels called to ministry that is a part of this church and lives in Gladwin County. Our goal is to perhaps use this young man and the other families to establish some Home Bible Studies that we believe would ultimately grow into a new work at some point in the forseeable future. Pray that God would open these doors or others and allow this work to begin.
